y-o-u

Time for some stories! I've had several interesting interactions with the kiddos over the last week and they're just begging to be blogged!

Last Saturday, I was taking Leah to the Immediate Care Center (rapid onset of red, blood-shot eyes with lots of goop). We had the radio on and the song Watching You came on.
L: Why does he want to be just like that guy?
M: Well, because the little kid loves his daddy and wants to do everything his daddy does.
L: I love my daddy, but I don't want to be just like him.
M: *pause* You don't?
L: No. I don't want to get in trouble like daddy. Daddy gets in trouble a lot. Because he says bad words. You know, words I'm not supposed to say. Like shit.
M: Leah! I know what words you aren't supposed to say!
L: I know. I'm just reminding you.

The next morning, Mike & I were preparing food for a neighbor whose brother had passed away. I told Mike Leah's little story about him. He picked her up and asked her if she wanted to be like her mommy instead.
L: *hesitantly* Yeah. *pause* But I don't want to cook!

At dinner one night this past week, Leah finished her drink and asked for water. As I handed her the glass of water, Kaden asked for milk. He happened to have milk in the fridge from his breakfast that morning, so I gave it to him. Leah immediately started whining that she wanted milk.
M: No, you just asked for water. If you drink your water and you're still thirsty, then you can have some milk.
L: I want milk. I want miiiilllllk. I want miiiiiiiiillllllllkkkkk.
M: Well, I want kids that don't whine.
L: Well, I want a mommy that doesn't yell.
This was met by dead silence from the other children. Hannah & Cody couldn't seem to believe that Leah wasn't automatically killed! I was trying very hard not to laugh and responded that if she didn't whine, maybe mommy wouldn't yell quite so much. I just shake my head and wonder what I'll be up against when she's 14!

And last night, as I was trying to get Kaden to go to sleep he was chattering on and on. He looked at me and said:
K: I love y-o-u.
M: Wow! Me?
K: No. I love y-o-u Papaw.
M: Where did you learn to spell?
K: *silence*
And, of course, he wouldn't do it again, so Mike thinks I'm imagining it.
